to promote free inquiry, encourage research, writing,
and publication of original work
toward the advancement of science, arts and the humanities.

Scholarship:
to support scholarly journals, independent publishers,
and all rightful means of sharing information
through a diverse and liberal blend of libraries, bookstores,
and computer access to the internet.

The Common Good:
to share benefits of independent scholarship with all citizens
without regard to privilege or power,
in or outside institutions of higher learning.
