by promoting free inquiry and encouraging research, writing, and publication of original work toward the advancement of science, arts and the humanities.
Scholarship:
by supporting scholarly journals, independent publishers, and all rightful means of sharing information through a diverse and liberal blend of libraries, bookstores, and computer access to the internet.
The Common Good:
by sharing the benefits of independent scholarship with all citizens without regard to privilege or power, in or outside institutions of higher learning.
